Herefordshire to Save on Power Bills

1st October 2009

It now seems that the consumers that live in Herefordshire, that are looking to save money on their overly expensive gas and power bills, may soon be able to do just that. This will be done by being able to pinpoint exactly where they are losing the most money.

Right now the local council is planning on deploying the HeatSeekers vehicle for a week starting October 5th. This vehicle will be using thermal imaging to see where the biggest heat losses are occurring in homes for this region. By knowing where most of the heat in a house is escaping, consumers have a better chance of being able to stop this heat loss and save some money. Not only does this save money, but it helps the UK on reaching the low carbon goals that it has set for itself.

The HeatSeekers, which was developed by the Energy Saving Partnership, will be able to tell where homes need more insulation before winter hits full force. In order to do this, the vehicle will operate at night so that it can get the best readings. The vehicle will be able to monitor up to 1,000 homes every hour.

The director of the Energy Saving Partnership, Keith Hewitson, said that the HeatSeekers thermal imaging vehicle has been able to create a lot of buzz in this sector. They have been very delighted to see this kind of reaction from the public. It would not shock them if other areas around the UK jump on board with this HeatSeekers idea as well in the near feature.
